RCMP Guards monitor and safeguard person in custody. Applicant must live within a 30 minute drive of the Detachment and be flexible as this position is casual, call in as required.Physical handling of prisoners is not a job requirement for Detention Guards. Any movement of Prisoners will be conducted by the RCMP. Guard duties are to monitor prisoners and to document prisoner movement/activities, as per RCMP policy guidelines.

Skills and Requirements
Able to obtain and RCMP Reliability and Public Works Reliability Clearance (RCMP Clearance can take 4-6 months to obtain)
•Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English or French as appropriate
•Bilingual Guards may be required for some communities
•Basic level computer skills an asset
•Vision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eye glasses permitted)
•Able to use both hands
• Occasionally required to manipulate/lift up to 20 kg
•Able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devices
•Valid level one First Aid Certificate c/w Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Skills and Requirements
• Minimum of one-year experience as a Security Guard or an equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e. secondary training in security services or equivalent)
▪ Must possess a basic understanding of the Canadian legal system
▪ Justice Institute program courses and/or Private Security Certificate preferred
▪ Minimum of one-year previous building and grounds maintenance experience
▪ Successful completion of the Basic Security Training (BST)
▪ Must be 19 years of age or older
▪ Must pass a Criminal Record Check and maintain same throughout employment
▪ Must possess a valid class 5 BC divers license
▪ Must complete Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS) training
▪ First Aid CPR Level 1 would be a defiant asset.
▪ Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property and buildings.
▪ Knowledge of buildings structure and components
▪ Strong mechanical ability and inclination
▪ Ability to react reasonably and appropriately in emergencies and work well under pressure
▪ Strong ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality
